Looking Ahead to Our Next Service Expansion

Here are the service improvements we’re proposing for the next year.

TriMet continues to expand service, with more improvements planned for the coming year. We want to increase bus service in growing neighborhoods to get you in and out on time. Here’s what we have proposed for fall 2020 and spring 2021.

Proposed bus service changes

New service


We want to add service in the South Hillsboro area by adjusting a current bus route and adding a new line.

New line between Willow Creek Transit Center and Downtown Hillsboro

This proposed line will run along Main Street and take over part of the current route for Line 47. Riders headed to PCC Rock Creek from Downtown Hillsboro can transfer to Line 47 to make their way north. Buses will come every 30 minutes on weekdays.

47 Main/Evergreen

South Hillsboro, Orenco, Tanasbourne and Bethany

We want to extend Line 47 into South Hillsboro. Trips that had turned west at Main Street would instead turn east and go down Cornelius Pass Road, ending at Reed’s Crossing Town Center, south of Tualatin Valley Highway.

Riders heading into Downtown Hillsboro from Line 47 can transfer to the new bus line that will run along Main Street between Hillsboro and Willow Creek TC, or transfer to MAX at Orenco Station.

We also want to increase service on Line 47 so that buses come every 15 minutes during weekday morning and afternoon commutes.

Shorter waits

16 Front Ave   52 Farmington/185th  155 Sunnyside

We want to add 12-minute service on weekdays for lines 6 and 12.

In addition, we’d like to add buses during the weekday commute to lines 16 and 155 so that you’re spending less time waiting during rush hour (and you'll have more space when you get on board).

Finally, we want to add 15-minute Frequent Service most of the day, every day to Line 52-Farmington/185th.

Evening service

87 Airport Way/181st

Parkrose, Argay Terrace, Wilkes, Rockwood, Centennial and North Gresham

We want to expand service for people who are out later on weekdays. Instead of ending at 6:30 p.m., Line 87 will run later into the evening.

 

What else is in the works?

Division Transit Project

The Division Transit Project will improve travel between Downtown Portland, Southeast and East Portland and Gresham with a new type of bus service that moves people faster and more reliably. With that, TriMet plans to add service on bus lines that connect with Division Street. TriMet proposes to make improvements to the following bus lines over the next several years:

  • Upgrade Line 87-Airport Way/181st Ave to Frequent Service (buses arriving every 15 minutes or better most of the day, every day.)
  • Add a new bus line to 148th Avenue.
  • Change the Line 10-Harold route so it serves SE 7th Avenue instead of SE Ladd. Add buses during the weekdays and restore weekend service.

Speeding up buses

We plan to introduce new bus lanes and transit priority signals in the next several years. These improvements should reduce travel times by keeping buses moving, even when traffic isn’t.

New bus stop amenities

We want to upgrade more of our highly used bus stops with new amenities like shelters, TransitTracker digital displays and concrete pads.

Improved security

We've got more security upgrades rolling out. We’re improving lighting and increasing the number of cameras at more stops and stations.

Equitable service

TriMet studies any fare change or major service change for potential impacts on minority and low-income populations. To do this, TriMet conducts an equity analysis whenever such changes are proposed, including service improvements for fall 2020 and spring 2021. Share your thoughts on the draft equity analysis or take a moment to review previous analyses.

Pedestrian Plan Virtual Open House

Whether you walk or roll, you are a pedestrian at some point when you use transit. Missing sidewalks, unsafe crossings, and other barriers can make it harder to get to transit safely and comfortably. TriMet’s Pedestrian Plan will help cities and counties make decisions about which projects take priority when working to fix those barriers.
